So have you wondered the meaning behind the room names in our church? Here’s the short version: JUAN DIEGO was walking to morning Mass when he saw the Virgin Mary. She asked him to have a church built in her honor at the foot of TEPEYAC hill. Juan Diego told the bishop, but he asked for proof. The Virgin Mary appeared to Juan Diego again and told him to pick ROSES, specifically CASTILIAN ROSES from the hilltop, even though it was winter. Juan Diego brought the flowers to the bishop, who saw the Virgin Mary's image imprinted on Juan Diego's TILMA. The bishop believed it was a miracle and ordered the construction of a MARIAN church in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Tepeyac Hill. ST CECILIA isn’t part of this story, but she is the patron saint of musicians which is fitting for the choir room.

Have you wondered why the Church lobby is called the "narthex"? The narthex is an enclosed porch or meeting area just inside the Western entrance of a Christian church. This area is sometimes also referred to as a “vestibule” or “foyer.” In the narthex people often gather before and after Holy Mass to greet each other. It's an area bridging the “sacred” and the “secular”.

Did you know that OLG has a Toddler Library in the narthex? When coming to OLG, you’re welcome to pick up a book or two for your little one to read and return after Mass. We gladly accept any religious-based children’s books for the Toddler Library that you may not be using anymore (please drop off to the parish office).
